With expectations to produce 120 graduates a year this campus will create over 30,000 jobs locally.

According to a recently released study conducted by Arduin, Laffer & Moore Econometrics, this new college of medicine will create more than 30,000 local jobs and have a 10-year economic impact of $7.6 billion. The campus will include the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences, a medical library and other UCF health sciences programs, capitalizing on the university’s strengths in biomedical sciences, modeling, simulation, optics and photonics, while fulfilling the community’s need to develop more physicians.

SANFORD-BURNHAM MEDICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE

For more than 30 years, Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute has conducted world-class collaborative research dedicated to finding cures for disease and improving quality of life. Over the next ten years, the Institute plans to employ over 300 scientists and support staff at the Lake Nona site.

VA MEDICAL CENTER

A center designed to provide accessible health care for approximately 400,000 Central Florida veterans.

With more than 1.8 million veterans calling Florida home, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recognized the need to build a new facility capable of providing the highest quality of healthcare and services to local veterans and their families in Central Florida. The new, over $665 million, state-of-the-art facility will increase accessibility to health care for approximately 400,000 of Central Florida’s veterans.

The VA Medical Center at Lake Nona will be the first VA hospital to be built in the United States since 1995. The medical center will include at 134-bed inpatient diagnostic and treatment hospital, a 118-bed nursing home, a 60-bed domiciliary, an outpatient clinic, a veterans benefit mini service center and generous patient and visitor parking.

NEMOURS CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

Catering to children, this state-of-the-art hospital and outpatient center is one of the nation’s largest.

Nemours brings their comprehensive children’s healthcare and research capabilities to the forefront of the emerging health and science sector of Central Florida. It also strategically places Nemours Children’s Hospital and research campus within walking distance of the other influential institutions, facilities and companies located within Lake Nona Medical City, increasing the potential for beneficial collaboration.

The University of Florida, the oldest and largest public university in the state has announced plans to locate a research facility at Lake Nona Medical City. The 100,000 square-foot facility will be located next to the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute at Lake Nona and will enable the university to have direct collaboration opportunities with Sanford-Burnham Institute’s top scientists. The facility opened in the summer of 2012.

MD ANDERSON ORLANDO CANCER RESEARCH INSTITUTE

Through a strategic partnership with the University of Central Florida, the clinical research department, known as MD Anderson Orlando Cancer Research Institute (CRI) occupies 30,000 square-feet of space on the fifth floor of the new UCF Burnett Biomedical Sciences Building.

In 1991, MD Anderson began collaborating with Orlando Regional Healthcare to create the MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando, bringing the expertise and resources of a world-class cancer center to the residents of Central Florida.
